Maimiao and Leizi
Hi, I’m Leizi, the independent developer behind Maimiao Word Cards. I currently build and run Maimiao on my own.
If you discovered Maimiao through a flashcard, a learning task, or a link from your teacher, this page introduces the person behind it.
Five years in
When I recorded this video, I had spent five years building vocabulary tools. The old product had reached more than 100,000 users, yet I decided to start over and rebuild it.
I recorded this video about that new beginning: “After Five Years Building a Vocabulary Tool, I Decided to Rebuild My Product with Over 100,000 Users from Scratch.”

Start with your words
Maimiao today focuses on something specific: turning the vocabulary material you already have into content you can actually use for learning.
A teacher’s list contains more than words and definitions. Which words to learn now, which meaning to teach first, and which examples fit the students are all teaching decisions. Parents and independent learners also have words from textbooks, reading, or work that they really need to remember.
Maimiao helps you organise that content into editable decks, add audio and images, and use it for learning and review. You can keep improving and reusing it instead of preparing everything again.
Bring learning back to teaching
Making cards is a beginning. Helping students open the content, understand what to do first, and see their results matters just as much.
That is why Maimiao also provides tasks, groups, and multi-day learning plans. Teachers choose the content, students practise, and the results inform the next lesson: who has not started, who missed a step, and which words need another explanation.
I want Maimiao to help you put your experience to use and leave you with content you can keep improving. Beyond the number of cards created, I care about whether students use them and whether the feedback helps you decide what to do next.
Building it on my own
Independent development means continuing to write code, prepare instructions, answer questions, and improve the product. The guides you are reading are part of that work.
If you get stuck, tell me what you wanted to do, where you stopped, and the message you saw. Specific experiences help me improve the product more than a general verdict that it works well or badly.
I would also like to hear which word lists are worth reusing, where your child or students need help, and which practice results actually changed your next learning arrangement.
Try one session
You do not need to know every feature first. Choose a few words for your next lesson or your own learning, make a deck, and complete a session to see whether it fits the way you work.
- Teach with Maimiao: create cards, share decks, assign tasks, and review deck and task progress.
- Complete a task: open shared content, finish learning, and revisit records.
- Learn with your child: support teacher assignments or prepare practice at home.
- Study on your own: build a personal word list and arrange recognition and review.
For questions or ideas, use the contact option in the creator app. Let’s start with a specific experience of using it.
